About the role

The Forward Deployed Engineer is one of the highest-leverage technical roles at Shipsy. The thesis is simple: the engineers closest to the customer’s real problems, with the most context, build the fastest and most valuable things first. What you build for one customer becomes the blueprint for what our platform productises for everyone.

You’re embedded inside one of our strategic enterprise customers, paired with a deployment strategist, reporting to an Engagement Manager. You configure Shipsy to the customer’s reality, build the integrations that make it usable, and ship the agent workflows that make it transformative.

This is not an engineering role that sits in a squad shipping tickets. It’s an engineer who lives in the customer’s operations, understands their world better than most of their own employees, and makes Shipsy work for them personally.

Who we’re looking for

We hire two complementary profiles. Both are valid; the mix depends on the account.

Profile A — Engineering-deep. Strong software engineer from a high-growth technology company. IIT / NIT / BITS or equivalent. 3+ years of production engineering. Comfortable with ambiguity, comfortable owning a customer relationship, comfortable working without a PM spec.

Profile B — Transformation-deep. Ex-MBB, GCC banking, or equivalent experience managing large-scale enterprise change programmes — with strong technical curiosity and hands-on AI fluency. Not the engineer who shipped the backend, but the person who figured out why the backend needed to be rewritten.

Where the role sits

You work in a small team led by an Engagement Manager, alongside a deployment strategist and a support and training lead. You report to the Engagement Manager on your account, with a dotted line to the regional Senior Director, Customer Solutions for career development. Your day-to-day is set by your customer’s needs, not by a central engineering sprint.

Travel to customer site is expected — typically 30–50% of your time, sometimes more during go-live. When not on-site, you’re in our Gurugram office with the other forward deployed engineers, peer-reviewing each other’s configurations and comparing patterns across accounts.

The progression path is clear. Senior forward deployed engineers become Engagement Managers. Exceptional ones carve out a platform area of their own and move into our product engineering team. A subset move onto the AI platform team as agent engineers. This is the single largest source of senior technical talent we expect to develop over the next three years.
